Express Entry Canada
Express Entry is Canada’s online system for managing applications for permanent residence from qualified skilled workers.
IRCC currently manages three federal immigration programs through Express Entry: the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).
How Express Entry Works
The first question is not simply your CRS score. An applicant must first qualify for at least one program managed through Express Entry.
Eligible candidates create an Express Entry profile and enter the pool. IRCC assigns a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on factors such as age, education, language ability, Canadian and foreign work experience and other qualifying factors.
IRCC then conducts rounds of invitations and invites selected candidates to apply for permanent residence.
Entering the Express Entry pool does not guarantee an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
Category-Based Express Entry Draws
In addition to other types of rounds, IRCC conducts category-based selection targeting candidates who meet specified economic priorities.
Categories can change over time, which is why candidates should review their Express Entry profile and immigration strategy regularly rather than relying only on historical CRS cut-offs. Current categories include selected occupational and French-language categories.
