The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has updated the Canadian work experience: earnings history scoring factor under the Ontario Workforce Priority Stream Expression of Interest (EOI) system. This update took effect on October 5, 2026.
Under the revised criteria, registrants who earned CAD $80,000 or more in a single year within the past five years may now receive 10 points under this scoring factor, provided that the earnings can be verified by a Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Notice of Assessment (NOA).
Importantly, this update has been automatically applied to all existing EOIs already in the system. Existing registrants do not need to make any changes or log back into the OINP e-Filing Portal for their scores to be updated.
This change may benefit candidates in the Ontario Workforce Priority Stream who have established a strong Canadian earnings history. Applicants with higher verified earnings may now see improved competitiveness under the EOI system.
Key Highlights
- Effective date: October 5, 2026
- Program: OINP Ontario Workforce Priority Stream
- Update: 10 points for earnings of CAD $80,000 or more in one year within the past five years
- Proof required: CRA Notice of Assessment (NOA)
- Applies to: New and existing EOIs
- Action required: None
Practical Considerations
- Check whether you earned CAD $80,000 or more in any one year within the last five years
- Confirm that you have the relevant CRA Notice of Assessment
- Review your EOI score once updated
- Reassess your strategy if this change improves your ranking
If you are planning to register, or have already registered, under the Ontario Workforce Priority Stream, this is an important update to note. The revised scoring factor may create an advantage for applicants with strong Canadian earnings history, especially where annual earnings of CAD $80,000 or more can be supported by a CRA NOA.
